14-year-old cuts teacher in Broward, faces felony charge

A 14-year-old ninth-grade student from Bright Horizons Center, Deerfield Beach, has been taken into custody by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday.

Authorities say the male student used a sharp instrument to injure a teacher on the school premises.

According to reports, someone contacted the county’s 911 center shortly after 9 a.m. for a report of a stabbing at Bright Horizons Center, located at 3901 NE 1st Terrace in Deerfield Beach.

Teacher’s condition and campus safety

The injured educator, whose identity remains undisclosed, received immediate medical attention at a local hospital for injuries described as non-life-threatening. 

In the aftermath of the incident, school officials promptly placed the campus on “secure status,” assuring the public that there was no longer an active threat.

Bright Horizons Center

Bright Horizons Center is recognized for its dedicated programs designed for students with disabilities, offering them “intense support.”

The specialized nature of the institution underscores the gravity of Tuesday’s occurrence.

District’s response

A spokesperson from the Broward school district, in a formal statement, clarified that no other students or staff were involved in the incident.

The school’s administration is cooperating fully with the investigation.
