The Bureau of Standards Jamaica (BSJ) has launched From Standards to Success, a national campaign to help Jamaican businesses better understand how quality, standards, and technical support can strengthen operations, build credibility, and prepare them for greater market opportunities.
Officially launched on World Standards Day, October 14, 2026, during BSJ’s START MSME Business Expo, the campaign will run through August 2027. It will bring the Standards Value Chain to life by showing how support such as training, testing, calibration, conformity assessment, and certification connects across the business journey and contributes to growth, competitiveness, and market readiness.
Under the tagline “Powering Business Success with Standards,” the campaign will translate the Standards Value Chain into practical business benefits, helping enterprises understand how stronger systems and processes can improve consistency, build customer confidence, and strengthen their position in the market.
Dr. Velton Gooden, executive director of the Bureau of Standards Jamaica, said the campaign is intended to make the quality journey clearer and more accessible for Jamaican businesses.
“From Standards to Success is about helping businesses see a clearer path from where they are today to where they want to go. We want entrepreneurs to understand that quality, testing, training, and certification are not separate hurdles, but tools that can help them strengthen their businesses and pursue greater opportunities,” Dr. Gooden said.
A key focus will be helping businesses understand where they are in their quality journey and identify the support they need at each stage, whether refining a product, improving processes, addressing quality concerns, or preparing to enter larger markets.
The campaign will primarily engage micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) and startups, manufacturers and agro-processors, growth-stage businesses, and companies preparing for export, while also reaching business leaders, technical professionals, emerging entrepreneurs, and the wider public.
Dr. Gooden said BSJ also wants businesses to see quality as an investment in long-term competitiveness rather than simply a requirement to be met.
“Quality can influence every part of a business, from how consistently it operates and the confidence customers place in its products to how prepared it is to pursue bigger markets. We want businesses to see BSJ as a partner that can help them identify the right next step and build the foundation they need to compete and grow,” he added.
The START MSME Business Expo, held under the theme “Standards for Business Success: Empowering MSMEs through the START Programme,” brought the campaign’s message to life by connecting entrepreneurs directly with technical experts, business-support organizations, and service providers. The event was designed to engage more than 100 MSMEs and give participants easier access to the guidance and resources needed to strengthen their businesses.
Through exhibition booths, technical presentations, and consultation areas, participants accessed information and one-on-one guidance on the START Programme, calibration, product and laboratory testing, labeling and packaging, training, certification, customer service, and business development.
The expo also connected entrepreneurs with organizations offering support in areas such as business registration, financing, export readiness, and intellectual property, demonstrating the value of collaboration in helping MSMEs become more competitive.
Ms. Maxine Fagan, manager of communication and customer service, said the expo gave MSMEs clearer direction on where to begin and how to access the support they need.
“Many MSMEs have strong ideas and ambitions, but may not always know which steps to take or where to find the right support. The expo helped remove some of that uncertainty by bringing the right information, expertise, and support together in one place, so entrepreneurs could better understand how to strengthen their businesses,” she said.
Fagan added that the campaign will build on that momentum by making BSJ’s support easier for businesses to understand and access.
“Through this campaign, we want businesses to have a clearer sense of what comes next, what support is available, when to access it, and how each step can strengthen quality, build credibility, and position them for greater opportunities,” she added.
Beyond the launch, From Standards to Success will remain visible across multiple platforms, keeping conversations around quality, competitiveness, and business growth active throughout the campaign period.
