The Dennis C. Moss Cultural Arts Center will kick off its 2026-2027 arts season with two nights of free live music on October 16 and 17, featuring the United States Marine Band, The Legendary Wailers and Third World.

The program opens Friday, October 16, at 8 p.m. with a performance by “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band, followed by the center’s annual Backyard Bash on Saturday, October 17, at 7 p.m., featuring The Legendary Wailers and special guest Third World.

The Marine Band concert forms part of Miami-Dade County’s America 250 celebrations, marking the 250th anniversary of the United States.

Founded in 1798 by an act of Congress, the United States Marine Band is the country’s oldest continuously active professional musical organization. Known as “The President’s Own,” the band has performed for every U.S. president since John Adams.

Led by Marine Band Director Lt. Col. Ryan Nowlin, the October 16 program will feature traditional band repertoire, marches by John Philip Sousa, contemporary compositions, vocal and instrumental solos, and a patriotic tribute to the U.S. Armed Forces.

Advance tickets for the free performance have been fully claimed, but an additional 100 complimentary tickets will be distributed on the day of the concert on a first-come, first-served basis.

The following evening, the center will host its annual Backyard Bash, headlined by The Legendary Wailers, led by Junior Marvin, who joined Bob Marley & The Wailers in 1977.

The group is expected to perform reggae classics including “Stir It Up,” “Could You Be Loved” and “Three Little Birds.”

Third World, the nine-time Grammy-nominated Jamaican reggae band known as the Reggae Ambassadors, will join the lineup. The group blends reggae with elements of R&B, funk, pop and rock.

Free tickets for the Backyard Bash became available October 8, with a limit of four tickets per person. A limited number of additional tickets will also be available on the day of the event, subject to availability.

Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets, as seating will not be provided.

The Moss Center, managed by the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, presents arts and cultural programming and works to expand access to the arts throughout the county.

For information about ticket availability, contact the Moss Center Box Office at (786) 573-5300 or email MossCenterInfo@miamidade.gov.
