India performances bolster Springer’s case

Springer enters the Test setup on the back of an impressive showing in the recently completed five-match T20 International series against India.

He claimed seven wickets, finishing with the second-highest tally in the series behind Paul, who took eight. His ability to make an impact with the ball has now earned him an opportunity to break into the West Indies’ red-ball plans.

Springer has previously represented the Caribbean side in 12 T20 Internationals and three One-Day Internationals, but the Bangladesh assignment will provide his first opportunity to be part of the senior Test squad.

Injury concerns narrow selection options

CWI also disclosed that fast bowlers Ojay Shields and Nial Smith were considered as possible options but were ultimately ruled out because of injuries.

Their unavailability further limited the selectors’ choices as the West Indies finalized their squad for the Bangladesh tour.

The two-Test series is scheduled to begin October 28, with the visitors preparing to shift their focus from the white-ball game to the demands of Test cricket.

For Springer, the call-up represents a chance to extend his international progress into the longest format, following a productive T20I campaign against one of the world’s leading sides.
