Two Jamaican nationals and a Haitian national are among 16 non-U.S. citizens charged in separate voter fraud cases across the United States, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

The charges, announced Friday, involve allegations of illegal voting in federal elections and falsely claiming U.S. citizenship to register to vote or cast ballots.

The three Caribbean nationals were charged in the Eastern District of North Carolina.

Jamaican national Lawton Caswell McKenzie, 46, a lawful permanent resident, faces one count of falsely claiming U.S. citizenship to vote and one count of voting by a noncitizen.

According to the Justice Department, McKenzie registered to vote in 2007 and 2012 and voted in the 2012, 2020 and 2024 general elections.

Fellow Jamaican Mervin Sylvester Bogle, 60, also a lawful permanent resident, faces one count of falsely claiming U.S. citizenship to vote. He registered in 2024 and completed a ballot in that year's general election, as well as voting in the 2008 and 2012 general elections, the department said.

Haitian national Lionel Paul, 62, a lawful permanent resident, faces one count of falsely claiming U.S. citizenship to vote and one count of voting by a noncitizen.

Paul registered to vote in 2024 and voted in that year's general election, according to the Justice Department.

The North Carolina cases involve 10 defendants accused of illegally voting in the 2024 elections. The other defendants include nationals of El Salvador, Germany, Panama, Canada and the former Yugoslavia.

Five additional noncitizens were arrested in the Northern District of New York in connection with alleged illegal voting. They include two British nationals, two Canadians and a Bosnian national.

In Idaho, Canadian national Taralynn Bosco, 48, a lawful permanent resident, was charged with illegal voting by a noncitizen. Prosecutors allege that she voted in the 2022 general election despite not being a U.S. citizen.

The Justice Department said the cases involve allegations of voting in elections that included contests for president, vice president and members of Congress, as well as claims of U.S. citizenship made in connection with voter registration or voting.

The department emphasized that the charges are allegations and that all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
