Etana and Nesbeth to headline JAMAICA Fest Independence celebration

The rhythms of reggae, the aroma of Jamaican cuisine, the excitement of a competitive domino tournament and the warmth of Jamaican hospitality will come together at Veterans Plaza in Silver Spring, Maryland, on Sunday, Aug. 9, as thousands gather for the fifth staging of JAMAICA Fest.

Beginning at noon, the festival will serve as the grand finale of the Embassy of Jamaica's celebrations marking Jamaica's 64th anniversary of Independence.

The event will showcase Jamaican music, cuisine, art, culture, tourism and entrepreneurship, transforming downtown Silver Spring into a vibrant celebration of Jamaican life and heritage.

Hosted by the Embassy of Jamaica in partnership with Right Now for Jamaica Inc., JAMAICA Fest will feature an entertainment lineup led by Grammy-nominated reggae artiste Etana and celebrated recording artiste Nesbeth. They will be joined by the Image Band and DJ Najair for a full day of live entertainment.

Chargé d'Affaires, a.i., at the Embassy of Jamaica, Lishann Salmon, said the annual festival provides an important opportunity for Jamaicans living overseas to reconnect with their heritage while sharing the richness of Jamaican culture with the wider community.

"JAMAICA Fest is a joyful reminder of the traditions that shaped us, the values we hold dear and the memories that continue to bring a smile to our faces," Salmon said.

"Whether it is through the music, the food or simply the way we come together, these moments connect us to our roots and to one another."

Salmon noted that the event also reflects the strength and vibrancy of the Jamaican diaspora across the Washington metropolitan area.

"The strength of the Jamaican diaspora and the wider Caribbean community has allowed our culture to flourish throughout this region," she said. "Silver Spring, with its vibrant Jamaican and Caribbean presence, is a fitting home for this celebration."

Now firmly established as the Embassy's flagship cultural event, JAMAICA Fest has developed into a major Jamaican festival in the U.S. capital region, drawing thousands of patrons from Maryland, Virginia, the District of Columbia and beyond.

Visitors will be treated to an authentic Jamaican experience featuring island cuisine, an Artisan Village showcasing Jamaican creativity, business and tourism zones highlighting investment and travel opportunities, government agency exhibits, family-friendly activities and the popular domino competition.

The festival also provides a valuable platform for Jamaican-owned businesses, entrepreneurs and community organizations to showcase their products and services, build connections and strengthen commercial and cultural ties between Jamaica and its diaspora.

Beyond the celebration, JAMAICA Fest promotes Jamaica as a destination for tourism, trade, investment and education. It also reinforces the Embassy's commitment to sustained diaspora engagement and to building partnerships across the Washington metropolitan region.

As this year's Independence celebrations in the nation's capital draw to a close, organizers are promising a day of music, food, cultural expression, family activities and Jamaican pride.
