Jamaican reggae artist Yaadcore has released Rasta Time, a nine-track EP that blends roots reggae, dub and hip-hop influences while exploring Rastafari, personal growth and youth violence.

Rasta Time marks Yaadcore’s first major project since his 2022 debut album, Reggaeland. He first gained recognition as a selector during Jamaica’s reggae revival movement of the 2010s, which helped bring artists such as Protoje and Chronixx to wider audiences. He has since established himself as a vocalist, combining traditional reggae with contemporary production influences.
The EP draws on Yaadcore’s spiritual journey and the cultural and spiritual legacy of Haile Selassie, Ethiopia’s former emperor, whom Rastafari adherents revere as a messianic figure.
Tracks such as “Look What I’ve Become” and “Mari Matrimony” explore clean living and mindful cannabis use, while the title track examines Rastafari’s influence on contemporary wellness culture, according to the release.
The project also addresses social issues. “Choppa Dem,” featuring Jamaican artist Imeru Tafari, takes aim at youth violence in Jamaica through a blend of Nyabinghi percussion and digital trap beats. The track was produced by Yaadcore and Wadadah II, and its music video was directed by Jamaican filmmaker Jesse James.
Tafari is the son of reggae singer Queen Ifrica and grandson of ska and rocksteady pioneer Derrick Morgan.
Another collaboration, “Heathen,” features reggae and dancehall artist Capleton. The EP also includes more personal material on “Mind & Body,” featuring Afro-Mexican singer Malaïka, and “Not Her Type.”
“It’s a compilation of different energies,” Yaadcore said of the project. “It’s a balance of Rasta energy and positive uplifting messages with a bit of the personal side the same way.”
The EP’s nine tracks are “Choppa Dem” featuring Imeru Tafari, “Heathen” featuring Capleton, “Rasta Time,” “Not Her Type,” “Mind & Body” featuring Malaïka, “Mari Matrimony,” “Look What I’ve Become,” “Rasta Time (Acoustic Version)” and “Rasta Time Dub.”
