Dancehall star Vybz Kartel has announced another album, The Sun, months after releasing his latest project, God & Time.

Kartel shared the news on his Instagram Story, posting promotional artwork announcing the album and listing December 18, 2026, as its release date.

The upcoming project marks another release from the prolific Jamaican artist, who has released three projects that debuted on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart over the past two years.

In a video discussing the album’s concept, Kartel reflected on his musical journey, personal growth and the motivation behind his continued output.

“I have nothing to prove. I do this for the love,” he said. “I'm always striving to be better. My real joy in music is like my real joy in everything: purpose. That's what really drives Vybz Kartel.”

Explaining the significance of the album’s title, Kartel described The Sun as a symbol of renewal and a return to his musical roots.

“At this point in my life, it represents the actual rising of the sun. Not only rising, the way humans use the sun as a source of calendar. I make a solar return to the original birth of Vybz Kartel,” he said.

Kartel also offered a glimpse into the album’s musical direction, promising a project centred on personal experiences and introspection.

“Just hardcore lyrics, talking about my life, hopes, dreams, fears,” he said.

The artist added that reinvention remains an important part of his creative process, describing the album as a reflection of a new chapter in his life.

“You always have to keep reinventing yourself. I like to identify eras in my life that I can express musically, so now I'm at this point where I can give them back,” he said.

The Sun is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026.
