Clarendon-born gospel reggae artist Sone G has released a new extended play (EP), NEW MAN, a six-track project that reflects his spiritual journey while encouraging listeners to embrace faith, healing and personal transformation.
The EP, which debuted on July 28 across major streaming platforms, combines reggae with contemporary gospel influences, delivering themes of hope, redemption and renewal.
"This project is more than music—it's my testimony," said Sone G, whose given name is Cecil Wilson. "NEW MAN represents the process of leaving behind the old life, old mindsets and old struggles to fully embrace the person God has called me to be."
Drawing inspiration from the biblical passage Ephesians 4:22-24, the project explores themes of restoration, identity and spiritual renewal, speaking to people navigating brokenness, uncertainty and the search for purpose.
For Wilson, music and ministry have long gone hand in hand.
Raised in Clarendon, he grew up surrounded by Jamaica's sound system culture through his family's Turbo Sonic sound system. His grandmother, Viola, affectionately known as "Vie," often took him to dances where the sound system played, exposing him to reggae and dancehall from an early age.
At the same time, another grandmother, Glasmine, introduced him to church, where regular worship services helped shape the faith that would later define both his life and music.
Wilson also excelled in football while attending Clarendon College, representing both his school and the parish. During the summer of 1999, in his first year of high school, he committed his life to Christ, a decision he says changed the direction of his life.
After graduating, he migrated to the United States, where he continues to live while ministering through music across the Caribbean diaspora.
Before launching his solo career, Wilson was one-half of the gospel duo PositivNRG, which won Best New Artiste at the 2008 Hopeton Lewis Music Awards. The duo also appeared on the album Next Level alongside veteran gospel artiste Papa San.
As a solo performer, Sone G has continued to build his profile, ministering through music in Florida, New York and other US cities while sharing stages with gospel artists including Tye Tribbett, Bridget Blucher-Simms, Sister Scully and Sandra Brooks.
In 2020, he received the International Psalmist of the Year award at the Antigua and Barbuda Gospel Music and Media Awards.
More recently, he has released songs including Purpose, one of his most requested tracks, and Stronger, an anthem focused on perseverance through faith.
With NEW MAN, Wilson believes listeners will hear his most personal work to date.
Beyond commercial success, he said his mission remains sharing the message of Jesus Christ and encouraging spiritual growth, healing and hope through music.
"I hope this project reminds people that no matter where they've been or what they've gone through, transformation is possible," he said.
