Chronic Law set for October trial on federal gun charge

Dancehall entertainer Chronic Law is set to go on trial in October on a federal gun possession charge in the United States.

The 32-year-old artist, whose given name is Ackeme Jermane Campbell, is charged with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. His trial is scheduled to begin Oct. 26, while a pretrial hearing has been set for Sept. 30 before Judge W. Louis Sands.

The court has said the trial must begin by Nov. 9 to satisfy the 70-day limit established under the Speedy Trial Act. The parties have been ordered to submit in writing any justifiable motions that could affect that timeline.

There is currently no indication on the court record that Chronic Law intends to enter plea negotiations, and no plea offer from federal prosecutors has been placed on the record.

The case stems from the St. Thomas native's arrest in Georgia on Nov. 15, 2025, following a speeding violation.

Authorities later said four firearms were found in the vehicle: a Glock pistol, a Smith & Wesson pistol, an S&W M&P 5.7 pistol and a Premiere Firearms PF-15 .223/5.56 rifle. Investigators also recovered 92 rounds of ammunition and five magazines.

One of the firearms had been reported stolen in Florida.

Federal authorities allege that Chronic Law admitted to possessing the firearms while being questioned in February, reportedly telling investigators that the weapons were used in music videos.

However, authorities say the terms of his U.S. work visa prohibited him from possessing firearms without a permit and that he had not obtained one.

Chronic Law was subsequently arrested in Florida in July and transported to Albany, Georgia. He pleaded not guilty to the federal charge at the end of August.

He was denied bail after the court determined that he posed a flight risk and a danger to the community.

His case is now scheduled to proceed to trial next month unless developments in the case alter the court's current timetable.
