The destination celebration will take place September 18-20 under the theme “Sounds of the Caribbean,” highlighting the rhythms, voices and cultural traditions that have shaped generations and continue to influence music worldwide.
The event will be held at the National Academy for the Performing Arts in Port of Spain, marking the first time the Caribbean Music Awards celebration will be hosted in the region.
According to CMA, the Elite Weekend Experience will transform the annual event from a single-night awards show into a multi-day celebration featuring music, culture and community. The weekend will bring together artists, fans, industry professionals, creators, tastemakers, media representatives and cultural leaders from across the Caribbean and the global diaspora.
“The move to Trinidad & Tobago marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the Caribbean Music Awards, while honoring the city where it all began,” CMA said.
The organization said New York was the ideal birthplace for the awards because of its large and influential Caribbean diaspora community. Over the past three years, Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre served as the platform where the Caribbean Music Awards built its identity and demonstrated global demand for a major celebration dedicated exclusively to Caribbean music and culture.
“The energy, ambition, entrepreneurial spirit, and relentless hustle that define New York City helped shape the DNA of the Caribbean Music Awards, and that spirit will remain embedded in the brand no matter where it travels,” CMA said.
With the move to Trinidad and Tobago, CMA said it is beginning a new phase that will see the event partner with tourism boards and destinations across the region to spotlight a different Caribbean nation in future years.
The organization said the rotating destination model aims to celebrate the unique culture of each Caribbean country, support tourism, create economic opportunities and strengthen the region’s creative economy while continuing to unite the global diaspora through music.
Adding star power to this year’s celebration, international soca artist Nailah Blackman and comedian, entertainer and cultural personality Majah Hype will host the fourth annual Caribbean Music Awards.
CMA said anticipation continues to grow following the announcement of more than 250 nominees across more than 40 categories earlier this year, with organizers promising one of the biggest celebrations in the awards’ history.
