The foundation has awarded scholarships for the 2026-27 academic year, providing EC$68,000 in financial assistance toward essential school expenses. The scholarships span the primary, secondary and tertiary levels, with recipients receiving support for tuition, textbooks, school bags and uniforms.

Sammy’s journey from Saint Lucia to the highest levels of international cricket has made him one of the island’s most recognizable sporting figures. The former West Indies captain played a pivotal role in the regional team’s success, leading the West Indies to victories at the 2012 and 2016 ICC World Twenty20 tournaments.
Sammy has also built a reputation beyond the cricket pitch as an advocate for young people and his homeland. Today, as head coach of the West Indies men’s team, he continues to occupy an influential position in Caribbean cricket while maintaining strong ties to Saint Lucia.
It is that connection to home that remains at the heart of the Daren Sammy Foundation, which was established in 2016.
This year’s scholarship recipients were selected based on a combination of academic performance, participation in sports or extracurricular activities, and financial need. The program is specifically designed to assist hardworking students from low-income families and provide them with resources that could otherwise prove difficult to afford.
Primary school recipients will receive EC$1,500 each, while students at the secondary and tertiary levels will receive EC$2,500 each. Scholarship recipients are required to maintain a minimum passing grade of 75% per term to remain eligible for continued assistance.
For Cathy Sammy, vice president of the Daren Sammy Foundation, the scholarships are about creating opportunities while reinforcing belief in the potential of Saint Lucia’s young people.
“At the Daren Sammy Foundation, we believe education is one of the greatest investments we can make in Saint Lucia’s future. Every scholarship represents financial support, but it also represents our confidence in the potential of our young people to lead, serve and inspire,” she said.
A growing legacy
The latest scholarship awards bring the foundation’s total number of scholarship recipients since its establishment to 240 students. Over that period, more than EC$370,000 has been provided in educational support.
As students across Saint Lucia prepare to return to school, the foundation’s contribution serves as a reminder that investing in education is ultimately an investment in the nation itself.
