The article mentions Bruce Maclaren, once a long-time resident of Australia, relocated to the Caribbean in 2008, making Turks and Caicos his new home. Despite the change in scenery, a fascination with ocean pools persisted in his mind, a concept deeply rooted in Australia’s coastal culture.

Ocean pools: A brief dive into history

Originating from the late 1800s along the coast of New South Wales, Australia, ocean pools served a dual purpose: a safe haven for swimmers against potential marine threats and a workaround for a then daytime public bathing ban. These natural wonders, replenished by the sea itself, present an enticing blend of safety and aesthetic appeal.

The inspirational power of ocean pools

According to the article,  Maclaren expressed that the prominence of ocean pools, accelerated by their photogenic nature on social platforms like Instagram, has captivated many.

Recognizing their allure and the vibrant communities around them, Maclaren saw an opportunity to bring a piece of this culture to the Caribbean.

Crafting the vision in Turks and Caicos

Wymara Resort and Villas embarked on this ambitious project last October.

The task involved excavating over 1,500 tons of rock, but the outcome was a majestic ocean pool spanning 130 feet in length and 30 feet in width.

Its depth varies with the tide, presenting both shallow and deep ends for diverse experiences.

From regular beach to exceptional experience

Rather than settling for a conventional beach, Maclaren’s vision transformed an adjacent rock shelf into this ocean pool.

Given the resort’s enviable location on Grace Bay Beach, often touted as one of the world’s finest, the new addition offers guests a refreshing alternative.

Currently, the unique ocean pool is an exclusive treat for Wymara’s guests.

However, Maclaren’s vision does not stop there. Soon, the wider public will get a taste of this experience with the introduction of a beachside restaurant and the offering of pool day passes.

More than just an ocean pool

Maclaren’s brainchild has garnered significant praise from resort guests, but Wymara Resort and Villas is not just about the ocean pool.

It boasts 91 revamped studios and suites, an expansive infinity edge pool, a comprehensive spa, and a trio of dining establishments.

For those seeking a mix of leisure and activity, the resort’s villa section houses the Sunset Cove Beach Club, featuring a variety of amenities from a lap pool to a eucalyptus steam room.

Wymara Resort and Villas is presenting a blend of Caribbean luxury and Australian nostalgia. The new ocean pool is not just an architectural marvel but a testament to Maclaren’s vision and passion.
