Odds increase for new tropical system as Hurricane season intensifies

The Atlantic Ocean basin is teeming with tropical activity, as yet another disturbance emerges from Central America, signaling a potential venture into the Gulf of Mexico in the upcoming week.

Emerging disturbance in the northwestern Caribbean


On Wednesday, the National Hurricane Center spotlighted a new  area of concern situated in the northwestern Caribbean Sea.

Swiftly, the likelihood of this disturbance developing has escalated. It is anticipated that an area of low pressure might emerge, spanning from the Gulf of Honduras reaching into the Gulf of Mexico in the coming days.

Pathway to the eastern Gulf of Mexico


As the weekend approaches and transitions into the new week, this budding storm shows potential for greater organization as it journeys towards the eastern Gulf of Mexico.

The NHC currently estimates a 50 per cent probability of the disturbance evolving further within the coming seven-day span.

Tropical Storm Franklin's Trail of impact


Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Franklin’s presence was strongly felt on the Dominican Republic’s shores on Wednesday. Haiti, Hispaniola and Puerto Rico experienced the storm’s impact with torrential downpours and gusty winds.
