Jamaica's Sport Minister commends athletes performance at the Budapest World Championships
At the recent World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, Jamaica’s track and field team clinched a notable fourth-place finish. Amassing a total of 12 medals, the team trailed only the United States, Canada, and Spain.
Distinct Caribbean pride
While many nations competed for glory, Jamaica stood out in its regional category.Highlighting their exceptional performance, Minister of Sport Olivia Grange, noted, “We are the only Caribbean country in the top ten on the medal table and only the United States with 29 medals won more medals than Jamaica.”
Gold medal triumphs
The country celebrated the spectacular achievements of its gold medalists: sprint hurdle victor Danielle Williams, 200m ace Shericka Jackson, and 400m top runner Antonio Watson.

Silver and bronze highlights
The accolades extended to silver medalists including long jumper Wayne Pinnock, 100m runner Shericka Jackson, sprint hurdler Hansle Parchment, the Women’s 4x100m relay team, and the Women’s 4x400m relay team.
The minister also lauded the bronze medallists including notable names such as Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce in the 100m, Rushell Clayton in the 400m hurdles, Tajay Gayle in long jump, and the Men’s 4x100m relay team.
