Jamaica Cops 2 Medals in Women’s 100m Sprint in Budapest

Jamaica added two more medals to the tally for three at the end of the third day of competition at the 19th World Athletics championships on Monday evening.

Contested inside the National Athletics Centre in Budapest as the final event on the day, Shericka Jackson and defending champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce had to settle for silver and bronze, respectively, behind American Sha’Carri Richardson.

The American, drawn widest of all in lane nine of the nine-woman field, stormed home in a new Championships Record 10.65 seconds, with Jackson clocking 10.72 seconds and Fraser-Pryce a season-best 10.77 seconds. The two medals add to the silver won by Hansle Parchment in the men’s 110m hurdles final contested a few minutes earlier.

Jamaica now joins the medals table in 10th place.
