The next phase of the blitz will focus on South America — including Argentina, Chile, Colombia, and Panama — followed by engagements in the Middle East and Europe early next year. Overall, Jamaica aims to welcome 8 million visitors and generate USD $10 billion in tourism earnings within the next five years.
Bartlett said the initiative aligns with the country’s carrying capacity development program, which seeks to expand high-value, luxury experiences and increase local ownership through the new “Local First” policy. Jamaica’s Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Senator the Hon. Aubyn Hill, is urging the United Kingdom to explore a special visa scheme aimed at easing the movement of Jamaican and Caribbean service professionals within the UK.
Senator Hill proposed that such an initiative be structured under the CARIFORUM-UK Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), which governs trade and investment relations between Jamaica and the UK. Unlike traditional trade agreements, the EPA also covers areas such as competition policy, intellectual property rights, regional integration, and cultural cooperation.
“To fully realise the opportunities presented under the EPA, improved arrangements are needed to facilitate the movement of Jamaican and CARIFORUM service professionals within the UK,” Senator Hill stated.

Nationals from several Caribbean countries are currently required to obtain a visa to visit the United Kingdom. This includes citizens of Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, and Dominica. Previously, these nations were part of the UK’s visa-exempt list, allowing their nationals to travel without a visa for short stays. However, due to a significant increase in asylum applications from these countries, the UK Home Office implemented visa requirements.
UK participants include companies in waste management and incineration solutions (Inciner8), international education (NCUK), construction and infrastructure development (Mowlem Group), agricultural exports (NSG Exports Limited), and supply chain and logistics services (JP Logistics Solutions).
A new UN-backed Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report has found that millions of Haitians are facing worsening food insecurity, with nearly one in five people now enduring emergency levels of hunger as armed groups tighten their grip on the country.
The analysis, covering September 2025 to February 2026 and projecting conditions through June 2026, estimates that 5.7 million people — almost half of Haiti’s population — are suffering from acute food insecurity.
According to the IPC, 1.9 million Haitians (17%) are experiencing emergency-level hunger, marked by severe food shortages, high levels of acute malnutrition, and increased mortality. Another 3.8 million (34%) are in a crisis phase, forced to sell assets or deplete livelihoods just to meet basic food needs.
The situation is expected to worsen during the upcoming lean season (March–June 2026), when harvests are low and food prices spike. The IPC projects that over 54% of the population could face critical hunger levels in that period.
Widespread insecurity has compounded the crisis. Armed groups now control large areas of Haiti, displacing thousands and disrupting trade, transport, and agriculture. Farmers who continue to work their land are often forced to negotiate access or share their crops with gangs, while small businesses have collapsed amid ongoing violence.
“Households in gang-occupied regions that relied on small businesses have been forced to abandon their sources of income,” the IPC noted, adding that mass unemployment and displacement have deepened poverty nationwide.
In displacement camps, overcrowding and poor sanitation have fueled cholera outbreaks, sexual violence, and mental health distress, leaving families without reliable access to water, food, or healthcare.
The IPC urged urgent emergency intervention, including expanding social protection programs and providing immediate food and livelihood assistance to prevent the most vulnerable households from resorting to harmful coping mechanisms such as child labor or early marriage.
Despite ongoing efforts by humanitarian organizations, aid access remains limited due to violence and insecurity, with large parts of Port-au-Prince and surrounding areas cut off from relief convoys.
The report serves as yet another warning that without coordinated local and international action, Haiti’s hunger crisis could reach catastrophic levels in the coming months.
Guyana President Dr. Irfaan Ali has announced plans to launch four new government software applications within the next six weeks, marking a major step in Guyana’s drive to digitize public services and improve transparency.
Speaking at the opening of the TOTALTEC-owned SOMA Hotel in Houston, Greater Georgetown, on Saturday, President Ali said the apps are part of a broader effort to modernize government operations and ensure accountability at every level.
“In another six weeks, we will be meeting with the private sector and launching four government apps to allow you to conduct business in a transparent manner,” he said, emphasizing that technology will be used to monitor officials and improve service delivery.
The initiative aligns with Guyana’s national digitisation programme, which aims to make most government services fully digital by mid-2026. The plan includes expanding digital infrastructure, introducing artificial intelligence (AI) into public administration, and improving cross-agency collaboration.
President Ali said the move is part of Guyana’s broader vision to transform into a globally competitive, technology-driven state, with projects such as a robotics-enabled hospital scheduled for completion by the end of 2026. The hospital will incorporate telemedicine and AI technology to link Guyanese patients with surgeons abroad.
“We are not tinkering on the edges,” he told attendees. “We are building hospitals that allow surgeons from Germany, India, or the United States to perform surgery in Guyana through robotics.”
On infrastructure, the president said rising travel demand has prompted plans to expand Terminal Two at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) — even before the new terminal is completed. The expansion, he added, will showcase Guyana’s biodiversity and cultural identity.
Ali also outlined upcoming economic and industrial projects, including the reactivation of two major gold mines by 2027 and the construction of a second gas pipeline to support new manufacturing investments.
By 2030, he said, Guyana will boast a world-class healthcare system, advanced food production for regional export, and data centers powering the Caribbean’s digital future.

Saturday’s event also marked the opening of the SOMA Hotel & Restaurant, a multimillion-dollar U.S.-backed project expected to create nearly 100 local jobs. “These vehicles will strengthen the capacity of the GSF and the Haitian National Police (PNH) to counter the deadly gangs terrorizing the people of Haiti,” the U.S. Embassy in Haiti said in an Oct. 8 statement, reaffirming Washington’s support for the country’s security efforts.
The GSF succeeds the Kenya-led Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS), whose mandate expired on Oct. 2 after achieving limited progress against armed groups that now control roughly 90% of Port-au-Prince. The new force — composed of both military and police personnel — aims to reinforce anti-gang operations and lay the groundwork for Haiti’s return to democratic governance.
The U.S. Permanent Mission to the UN confirmed last week that discussions are underway with member states, including Caribbean Community (Caricom) nations, to coordinate the GSF’s structure and eventual deployment.
Meanwhile, Guatemala has become the first country to pledge new personnel for the mission. Some 150 Guatemalan military officers, including 19 women, are currently in training to join the GSF. Colonel Alfredo Sáenz said the United Nations has not yet requested their deployment but noted the troops are ready to assist once called.
“This demonstrates the strong commitment we have as military police to serve as ambassadors in uniform, peacekeepers, and soldiers of hope for the Haitian people,” Sáenz said.

Cayman’s reef ecosystem is in crisis, and renowned underwater photographer and conservationist Courtney Platt is calling on residents and visitors alike to stop eating locally caught reef fish before it’s too late.
Platt, who has spent over four decades documenting the islands’ underwater life, says both reef fish and the coral they depend on are disappearing at a devastating rate. His campaign urges consumers to avoid species like parrotfish (known locally as squabs)—which play a vital role in maintaining beaches and coral health—until their populations recover.
“If you can afford to eat anything else, then please choose to eat anything else,” Platt told Cayman News Service, stressing that continued consumption of reef fish could push local stocks to extinction within just a few years.
When Platt began diving in the 1980s, Cayman’s reefs teemed with marine life. Today, overfishing, climate change, and coastal development have caused a dramatic collapse. He said parrotfish are among the most critical losses, describing the once-common blue parrotfish as “the unicorns of the sea” because sightings are now so rare.
“These fish are super important to our beaches,” Platt explained. “They literally create sand by feeding on coral. Without them, beach erosion will only get worse.”
To raise awareness, Platt plans to visit schools, churches, and community groups, using his striking photographs to illustrate the decline and inspire change. His message is simple: stop eating reef fish and encourage others to do the same.
He also points to lionfish as a sustainable alternative. The invasive predator is abundant in Cayman waters and poses a serious threat to native species. “In this case, overfishing works in our favor,” he said. “We should eat as many lionfish as possible.”
Platt emphasized that this crisis extends beyond environmental concerns—it’s about protecting Cayman’s tourism industry and cultural heritage. “The vibrant underwater world that once drew divers and photographers from around the world is vanishing,” he said. “If we don’t act now, we lose not just our fish, but part of what makes Cayman special.”

Former Grenada Senate President Chester Humphrey says he is ready to lead a peaceful protest against what he describes as a dangerous U.S. military move in the Caribbean — the proposed installation of radar equipment and American technical personnel at the Maurice Bishop International Airport (MBIA).
Humphrey, a veteran trade unionist and influential political figure, claimed that the U.S. request signals a potential prelude to military action against Venezuela’s Nicolás Maduro government, a close ally of Grenada.
“It will be a grave stain on our history and against the memory of our forefathers for us to join in a war against a state that has done us nothing — a state that has helped us tremendously,” Humphrey told WPG10 Television. “By giving the United States our facilities…the very Maurice Bishop Airport, which they accused us of building as an air base, is now being used by the very Americans. Cuba built us this international airport — it was always civilian.”
Humphrey said he intends to launch a national peace movement urging Grenadians to stand in “defiance and in support of peace,” and to oppose what he views as the militarization of the Caribbean.
Last week, the Grenadian government confirmed it had received a formal request from the United States for the temporary installation of radar equipment at MBIA. In a statement, the Dickon Mitchell administration said the proposal is being carefully reviewed by the Ministries of National Security, Legal Affairs, and Foreign Affairs, along with the Grenada Airport Authority.
“Any decisions will be made only after all technical and legal assessments are completed,” the government said, assuring citizens that any action taken will prioritize Grenada’s sovereignty, national interest, and public safety.
However, Humphrey warned that recent U.S. actions — including the reported revocation of Grenada’s finance minister’s visa, calls to end the island’s health brigade program with Cuba, and trade restrictions on local seafood exports — are part of what he described as efforts to “soften” Grenada into cooperating with Washington’s broader geopolitical agenda.
“If we agree to this (U.S. radar request), it is like Grenada being the place from where an invasion occurred,” he said. “There are times in the lives of men when you have to stand for something. The worst thing you can do in the face of a bully is to run.”
Humphrey accused the U.S. of targeting Venezuela for its vast oil reserves, calling the pressure campaign against Maduro “a case of robbery.”
He also noted the irony of the timing, recalling that it was in October 1983 when U.S. forces invaded Grenada following the coup that led to the death of Prime Minister Maurice Bishop.
“It’s ironic that in October, the Americans are back again,” Humphrey said, adding that Grenada must not allow history to repeat itself.
Deerfield Beach has officially begun a transition period for its public safety services after a 35-year partnership with the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO), city officials announced.
According to a city statement, the transition took effect on October 1, 2025. Under the agreement, the city will continue receiving law enforcement services from BSO for up to 24 months while officials review all available options for both police and fire services moving forward.
City leaders emphasized their appreciation for the “professionalism and dedication” of BSO’s personnel and described the longstanding relationship as a point of civic pride.

Broward Circuit Judge Stefanie Moon appeared before the Florida Supreme Court on Thursday to receive a public reprimand for misconduct on the bench — standing silently as the justices recounted a series of ethical violations committed during her 2024 re-election campaign.
The reprimand formally concludes a disciplinary case in which Moon was accused of asking an attorney from the bench why he had not returned a fundraising call, engaging in ex-parte communication with a witness in a restraining order case, and making partisan political donations, all in violation of judicial ethics rules.
“Your behavior in these instances is unacceptable,” Chief Justice Carlos Muñiz told Moon. “You have discredited yourself, and your thoughtless actions have risked undermining public confidence in the judiciary as a whole. We hope never to see you again under circumstances like this.”

A 50-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly shooting a woman in Pompano Beach on Sunday, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said Edward Wiggins was charged with attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and shooting into an occupied dwelling following the incident.
Authorities responded to reports of a shooting in the 200 block of Northwest 14th Street, where they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. She was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover.
Wiggins was later taken into custody as the investigation continues.
A dispute over parking in Lauderhill on Saturday ended with one man hospitalized and another detained, according to police.
Officers responded to reports of an altercation near 1500 N. State Road 7, where two men had reportedly gotten into an argument that escalated into violence. During the confrontation, one of the men was stabbed.

In April and August, Kartel sold out the 18,500-capacity Barclays venue on three separate occasions. In June, he sold out the 20,000-capacity State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, as part of the Reggae Fest Tour. In September, he sold out the O2 Arena in London, becoming the first Jamaican dancehall artist to sell out two consecutive nights at the venue.
He followed up with a sold-out performance at the Co-Op Arena in Manchester, UK. This was followed by a sold-out event at the BP Pulse Arena in Birmingham, England, before doing the same at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam, Netherlands, as part of his “Worl’ Boss Tour.”
