According to the state Department of Commerce, the jobless rate was estimated at 3.3 per cent, with 361,000 Floridians classified as unemployed.

This represents an increase of 8,000 unemployed individuals from March, while the labor force saw a slight decline to 11.095 million.

Strong job growth amid rising unemployment

Despite the rise in unemployment, the state reported robust job growth. The chief of workforce statistics and economic research at the Department of Commerce highlighted that the unemployment rate remains low by historical standards.

The national unemployment rate stood at 3.9 per cent in April, slightly higher than Florida’s rate.

Private-sector employment sees increase

The state continues to be favorable for job seekers, with private-sector employment increasing by 42,600 jobs in April.

The number of job openings outpaced the number of unemployed individuals, indicating a healthy job market.

The state’s jobless rate in March was 3.2 per cent, following three months at 3.1 per cent. The lowest unemployment rate recorded was 2.4 per cent in the spring of 2006.

The report showed modest employment gains across various sectors. Construction added 400 jobs, manufacturing increased by 2,300 positions, education and health services grew by 6,300 jobs, and leisure and hospitality saw an increase of 9,200 jobs.

Lowest and highest unemployment rates by region

The Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach metropolitan area continued to have the lowest unemployment rates in the state at 2.7 per cent, unchanged from March.

The Naples-Immokalee-Marco Island and Crestview-Fort Walton Beach-Destin areas reported rates of 2.9 per cent.
