PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) — Trinidad and Tobago has been selected as one of 63 countries shortlisted for the World Summit Awards (WSA) 2024. The prestigious recognition highlights initiatives that align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“Being shortlisted among 133 solutions from 63 countries is an extraordinary honor. It places Trinidad and Tobago at the forefront of global conversations about innovation, sustainability and inclusive development,” according to a statement from the Network of Rural Women Producers of Trinidad and Tobago (NRWPTT).
“As the project advances to compete at the WSA Global Congress in Hyderabad, India, we are reminded of the immense potential within our nation to influence change on a global scale,” it added.
NRWPTT president, Gia Gaspard-Taylor, who is also the UNESCO World Summit Awards National Expert, has since extended “heartfelt congratulations to the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government for their monumental achievement in reaching the semi-finals of the WSA 2024”.
“This recognition underscores the ministry’s unwavering dedication to utilizing digital innovation to create meaningful impact in communities across Trinidad and Tobago.”
The NRWPTT said that the Trinidad and Tobago Local TT – Public Engagement and Service Delivery Platform exemplifies the power of technology to transform lives.
“By streamlining public services and enhancing engagement, this groundbreaking initiative is a testament to the ministry’s commitment to driving progress aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“This achievement not only highlights the ministry’s efforts but also inspires us all to reimagine what’s possible when technology and purpose converge. It’s a proud moment for Trinidad and Tobago, showcasing the remarkable strides our leaders are making toward a brighter, more sustainable future,” the NEWPTT said, noting also the “tireless” work of Gaspard Taylor and Youth Ambassador Angelina Ali, in helping to bring “this impactful project to the global spotlight”.
