With eight out of the nine council members signing the document, the statement underscores a crucial step towards bringing stability to the nation.

Commitment to democratic renewal

Expressing a firm commitment to reclaiming “public and democratic order,” the council members articulated their resolve to address the longstanding challenges plaguing Haiti.

Highlighting the plight of the Haitian populace trapped amid governance failures and rampant violence, the council emphasized the urgent need for remedial action.

Path to redemption

Amid escalating violence that has gripped the capital, Port-au-Prince, since the brazen attacks on February 29, the council’s statement offers a glimmer of hope.

While acknowledging the recent spate of violence targeting key governmental installations, including police stations and prisons, the council assured swift measures to restore security and stability.

Rebuilding amid adversity

With the specter of homelessness and loss of life haunting the nation, the council outlined a comprehensive action plan aimed at addressing the multifaceted crises.

From alleviating poverty to facilitating free and fair elections, the council underscored its commitment to spearheading reforms essential for Haiti’s progress.

Roadmap to governance

Setting the stage for pivotal leadership transitions, the council disclosed its blueprint for selecting key governmental figures, including a council president, a new prime minister, and a ministerial cabinet.

Call for unity

In a rallying cry for national solidarity, the council implored the Haitian populace to unite in overcoming the prevailing crisis.

Emphasizing the imperative of collective action, the council underscored the significance of a unified front in steering Haiti toward a brighter future.

Signatories of change

The statement, endorsed by a diverse array of political factions and stakeholders, reflects a rare consensus in Haiti’s fractious political landscape.

From representatives of political groups like the Montana Accord and Fanmi Lavalas to voices from the private sector and civil society, the signatories underscore the broad-based support for the council’s mandate.

In a recent development, Augustin Smith assumed the mantle previously held by Dominique Dupuy, underscoring the fluidity of Haiti’s political dynamics amidst ongoing challenges.
