Since the implementation of the Disabilities Act of Jamaica on February 14, 2022, the NHF has intensified its efforts to ensure improved service for this vulnerable demographic.

A focus on inclusivity

With an estimated 600,000 Jamaicans living with disabilities, the NHF has acknowledged the importance of catering to this segment of the population.

Everton Anderson, Chief Executive Officer of NHF, emphasized this commitment during a recent webinar aimed at promoting better customer service for persons with disabilities.

He outlined various adjustments made across the agency to enhance their experience.

Enhancements in service delivery

The NHF is actively assessing all its locations to guarantee ease of access for individuals with disabilities.

Moreover, they are prioritizing the needs of these individuals at service points and incorporating sign language into educational materials and major events.

Additionally, initiatives like providing magnifying glasses for the visually impaired at select Drug Serv locations and distributing information in braille highlight the NHF’s dedication to inclusivity.

The NHF has developed a Customer Service Protocol specifically for persons with disabilities, ensuring that staff are equipped to provide appropriate assistance.

The organization was honored with the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award, underscoring its commitment to these values.

Continued innovation for accessibility

Looking ahead, the NHF remains dedicated to identifying and mitigating challenges faced by persons with disabilities in service delivery.

They affirm their commitment to continued innovation to best serve this community’s interests.
