“When you think of the words community and empowerment in the context of enabling people to permanently change their lives for the better, the very first name that has to come to mind is Alberto Carvalho,” said Trish Bell. “When it comes to improving the community in a multitude of areas, he is focused, driven and passionate. And he devotes his entire energy to helping others improve their lives.”

 Nationally recognized expert

At the helm of the nation’s fourth largest school system since September 2008, Superintendent Carvalho is a nationally recognized expert on education transformation, finance, and leadership development. During his tenure, Miami-Dade County Public Schools has become one of the nation’s highest performing urban school systems receiving system-wide accreditation from AdvancEd in 2014.

Humbled by the recognition

“Receiving the Trish and Dan Bell Community Empowerment Award from Branches is a wonderful honor,” said Superintendent Carvalho. “The philanthropic generosity of Trish and Dan is monumental, impacting neighborhoods and families across our community, and the Branches organization is highly-regarded for educational programs, which help lift student achievement. I am humbled by the recognition and share this award with the entire M-DCPS family.”

Trish and Dan Bell are philanthropic leaders who have dedicated themselves to improving the lives of children and families. Each year, this award recognizes and honors someone who similarly is dedicated to creating a more compassionate community that provides real opportunities for all children and families.
