Dwayne Bravo has expressed his enthusiasm about joining the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as a mentor.
“This is the perfect platform for me as I transition from playing to mentoring and coaching the next generation of players,” said the 41-year-old all-rounder who made the switch just one day after announcing his retirement from all forms of cricket, leaving behind a legacy at the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
In his new role, Bravo will oversee all franchises under the Knight Riders banner, including the Trinbago Knight Riders (CPL), Los Angeles Knight Riders (MLC), and Abu Dhabi Knight Riders (ILT20). KKR’s Chief Executive Officer, Venky Mysore, welcomed Bravo to the team, highlighting the immense value his experience will bring.
“DJ Bravo joining us is an exciting development. His relentless drive to win, along with his vast experience and deep knowledge, will greatly benefit our franchise and players,” Mysore stated.
The franchise’s culture
Bravo’s appointment comes after Gautam Gambhir stepped down to take over as head coach of the Indian national team following KKR’s successful 2024 IPL campaign. Having spent a decade with the Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League, Bravo is familiar with the franchise’s culture.
“The owners’ passion, the professionalism of the management, and the family-like environment make it a special place,” he added.
Bravo has already made a significant impact in the IPL; after joining CSK in 2011, he retired from playing after the 2022 season and transitioned into a coaching role. Under his guidance, CSK won the IPL title in 2023, adding to the three championships he secured as a player. Renowned as one of the best death bowlers in T20 cricket, Bravo retires as the third-highest wicket-taker in IPL history.
