After two decades of redefining West Indies cricket and leaving an indelible mark on the global stage, Dwayne Bravo, the flamboyant all-rounder, has officially called time on his legendary career.

Known for his explosive performances, sharp bowling, and infectious charisma, Bravo’s departure signals the end of an era for Caribbean cricket.

“For 21 years, I lived my dream as a professional cricketer, but now it’s time to face reality,” said Bravo, announcing his retirement from all formats of the game. At 40, the T20 icon’s decision comes after an injury cut short his final Caribbean Premier League (CPL) season, marking the end of an illustrious career.

Heartfelt Instagram post

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Bravo reflected on the physical toll that ultimately led him to hang up his boots. “My mind wants to keep going, but my body can no longer endure the pain, the breakdowns, and the strain. I can’t put myself in a position where I might let down my teammates, my fans, or the teams I represent.”

Bravo, who first retired from international cricket in 2021 and stepped away from the Indian Premier League (IPL) last year, leaves behind an unparalleled legacy, especially in T20 cricket, where he remains the all-time leading wicket-taker with 631 wickets from 582 matches. Over his 21-year career, Bravo won numerous titles across the IPL, Pakistan Super League, and Big Bash League, along with two T20 World Cup triumphs for the West Indies.

In the CPL, he lifted the trophy five times, including three titles with the Trinbago Knight Riders.

Goodbye to the game

“Today is the day I say goodbye to the game that has given me everything,” Bravo reflected, highlighting his lifelong dedication to cricket, a sport he first fell in love with at five years old. “I had no interest in anything else, and I dedicated my entire life to you. In return, you gave me the life I dreamed of for myself and my family.”

While he may be stepping away from the pitch, Bravo has already transitioned into coaching roles, having served as a bowling consultant for the Afghanistan men’s team during the 2024 T20 World Cup and working with Chennai Super Kings in the IPL.

With his emotional farewell, Bravo concluded, “So, with a heavy heart, I officially announce my retirement from the sport. Today, the Champion bids farewell. To my fans across the Caribbean, worldwide, and especially in Trinidad & Tobago – thank you for standing by me, especially in these recent weeks.”
