ST JOHN’S, Antigua — Trinidad and Tobago Red Force have reclaimed their place atop regional cricket, ending a 20-year wait for the West Indies Championship title and drawing praise from across the Caribbean cricket fraternity for a season defined by consistency, resilience, and composure under pressure.
The long-awaited triumph halted the dominance of the Guyana Harpy Eagles, who entered the decisive clash pursuing a remarkable fourth consecutive championship and carrying a record of eight titles in the last 10 editions of the regional four-day competition.
Instead, it was the Red Force who seized the moment, delivering a composed performance in the season finale to secure one of the most significant titles in the team’s modern history.
Shallow praises discipline and character
Cricket West Indies President Kishore Shallow commended the champions for sustaining high standards throughout the campaign and maintaining their nerve against formidable opposition.
“This achievement is a testament to the team’s hard work, preparation, and consistency throughout the season,” said Dr. Shallow.
“The players and management demonstrated tremendous character and professionalism, particularly in a high-pressure final against a very strong Guyana Harpy Eagles side. Their success reflects the rich cricketing tradition of Trinidad and Tobago and the continued strength of first-class cricket within the region.”
Dr. Shallow also highlighted the broader significance of the tournament, emphasizing the continuing importance of the West Indies Championship in nurturing regional talent.
“The West Indies Championship remains a vital pillar in our cricket development pathway and continues to provide an important platform for players to sharpen their skills,” he said.

The CWI president additionally applauded the Guyana Harpy Eagles for another outstanding season despite falling short in their pursuit of a historic fourth straight crown.
He also expressed gratitude to the territorial boards, match officials, sponsors, participating teams, and supporters throughout the Caribbean for helping sustain the competition’s success and prestige.
The result marks a dramatic shift in the regional landscape after years of Guyanese dominance and signals a resurgence for Trinidad and Tobago cricket at the first-class level.
WIPA joins celebration of championship success
The West Indies Players’ Association also paid tribute to the newly crowned champions, with WIPA President and CEO Wavell Hinds extending congratulations to the squad and management team led by coach Rayad Emrit.
“On behalf of the West Indies Players’ Association, I extend congratulations to the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force on claiming the 2026 West Indies Championship title,” Hinds said.
“We wish the team, management, and support staff continued success.”
