MANCHESTER, England — After delivering one of the finest seasons of her career, Khadija Shaw has revealed that her preference remains to continue with Manchester City W.F.C., even as uncertainty surrounds her contractual future.
The Jamaican striker, widely regarded as one of the most dominant forwards in women’s football, is set to become a free agent next month amid reports that negotiations over a new contract have slowed significantly.
Despite growing speculation linking her with a move away from Manchester, Shaw made it clear that the club still feels like home.
“I’ve always said Manchester is my home, it’s where I want to be, but there’s a lot of things which go on behind the scenes which I won’t talk about now, but I’ve always been proud of all the girls and everything,” Shaw told Sky Sports.
“Manchester is where I would want to be, but ultimately we’ll see.”
Chelsea reportedly monitoring situation
Shaw’s uncertain status has reportedly attracted strong interest from Chelsea F.C. Women, with reports indicating the London side is prepared to offer the prolific striker a contract worth £1 million annually.
The possibility of losing one of the club’s greatest-ever goal scorers would represent a major blow for City, particularly after Shaw spearheaded a historic campaign that returned the Women’s Super League trophy to Manchester for the first time in a decade.
The 29-year-old once again established herself as the league’s most feared attacker, capturing a third straight Golden Boot after scoring 21 goals in 22 league appearances.
Her brilliance helped drive City to the Women’s Super League title, capping a remarkable season filled with individual and team success.
Shaw’s performances also earned her the league’s Player of the Season award for the second consecutive year, adding to the Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year honor she collected earlier this month.
A legacy already secured
Since arriving from FC Girondins de Bordeaux Féminines in 2021, Shaw has transformed herself into one of the defining figures in Manchester City’s modern era.
Her astonishing tally of 117 goals in 137 appearances has already cemented her place in club history, making her the only player ever to surpass 100 goals for City across all competitions.
Yet despite the accolades and records, Shaw emphasized the collective effort behind her success.
“A lot of emotions, it’s been a long season, grind, hard work. We have ups and downs, but we live for these and I can’t wait to celebrate,” she said.
“It’s been a long season, I’ve always tried to do the best I can, the players I have around me make me look good.”
Decision looms over summer
For now, Shaw’s future remains unresolved.
What is certain, however, is that whichever club secures her signature will gain one of the game’s most clinical finishers, a player coming off yet another title-winning season and still operating at the peak of her powers.
