His funeral is scheduled for January 9, marking an end to a chapter of vibrant musical contributions and heartfelt performances.

Arrangements and remembrances

Drue’s family, led by his mother Nicola Barriteau, has announced the funeral details. 

The service is set to start at 1 pm at the Holy Family Cathedral in his native Antigua.

A mother’s tribute

Barriteau, in her first public comment since her son’s passing in December, extended gratitude for the outpouring of support and love from the public. 

She conveyed her family’s struggle to come to terms with Drue’s death emphasizing their appreciation for the respect and understanding shown during this challenging period. Her words resonated with the pain of loss but also with the acceptance of life’s inevitable end.

Celebrating Drue’s legacy

Ricardo Drue, renowned for hits like “Vagabond” and “Toxic Love,” left an indelible mark in the world of soca music. His sudden death on December 12th, 2023, at the age of 38, came as a shock to many. 

Scores of Soca artistes paid tribute to the Antiguan soca sensation.

According to the Antigua Observer, Drue died at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre in Antigua after being found unresponsive and rushed to the hospital.
