The announcement capped a celebratory evening for the prolific striker, who revealed the news in dramatic fashion on stage during City’s 2025-26 After-Party at Co-op Live shortly after collecting the Etihad Player of the Season award.

The agreement ensures that Shaw, already one of the most decorated forwards in women’s football, could complete nearly a decade in Manchester blue by the time the deal expires.

Record-breaking campaign elevates Shaw into WSL history

If there were any doubts about Shaw’s place among the elite, her latest season erased them emphatically.

The 29-year-old powered City to the Women’s Super League title while capturing the Golden Boot for a third straight year after scoring 21 goals in just 22 league appearances.

In doing so, Shaw became the first player in WSL history to surpass the 20-goal mark in three separate seasons, further cementing her reputation as one of the game’s most devastating finishers.

Her relentless scoring form also pushed her beyond 100 goal involvements in the competition, another milestone in a career already overflowing with accolades.

Recognition quickly followed. Shaw secured both the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year award and the WSL Player of the Season honor, with the possibility of adding an FA Cup title still looming should City defeat Brighton & Hove Albion Women at Wembley.

From goal machine to club legend

Since arriving at City in the summer of 2021, Shaw has transformed into one of the defining figures of the club’s modern era.

In December 2025, she became the first player in the professional history of Manchester City Women to score 100 goals for the club. Heading into the FA Cup final, her tally for the season stands at 26 goals and seven assists in 31 appearances.

Her overall numbers are even more staggering.

Across five seasons at the Joie Stadium, Shaw has produced 117 goals and 28 assists, an astonishing 145 goal involvements in only 137 matches.

Already the club’s all-time leading scorer, the Jamaican captain continues to redefine standards in the English women’s game.

City hails Shaw’s influence on and off the field

Manchester City Director of Football Therese Sjogran described Shaw’s contract extension as a major statement for both club and player.

“We’re delighted that Bunny has agreed to another four years at Manchester City,” Sjogran said.

“We’ve had a tremendous 2025-26 campaign, and she’s been a key figure in that success. I’m sure if we also get the result we’re hoping for in the FA Cup final on Sunday, she’ll have played a huge role in that as well.”

Sjogran also emphasized Shaw’s growing leadership within the squad.

“The stats and awards speak for themselves, but there’s so much more to Bunny than what she does on the pitch,” she said. “She has become a real leader in the team and I’m sure she’ll be a driving force on our return to UEFA Champions League football next season and our push to retain the WSL title.

“It’s a huge statement from City that we’ve secured the services of one of the best center forwards in the world, but also from Bunny that she believes we’re the best place for her to succeed. I’d like to thank her for that continued faith in what we’re hoping to achieve.”

‘Manchester City feels like home’

For Shaw, the extension represents more than just another contract. It reflects the bond she has built with the club during the most productive years of her career.

“I’m so happy to be at this incredible club for another four years,” Shaw said.

“I’ve always said that Manchester City feels like home, I’ve developed so much as a player and grown so much as a person during my first five years here.”

The Reggae Girlz captain also pointed to City’s title-winning campaign as one of the defining achievements of her career.

“Helping the girls win the WSL title is one of the proudest moments of my career, and I’m so excited to see what we can do next season and beyond, although there’s one more huge game to come against Brighton!”

She also reserved special praise for the supporters who have embraced her throughout her journey in Manchester.

“To the City fans, thank you for always supporting us all. I’m so happy to be on this memorable journey with you all and can’t wait to see what we can achieve in the future.”
