In a strategic initiative aimed at bolstering its agricultural sector, Guyana has announced plans to cultivate an additional 1,000 acres of coconut by the end of this year.
This ambitious endeavor is part of Guyana’s ongoing commitment to scaling up coconut production and establishing it as a cornerstone crop in the country’s diversification efforts.
Sowing the seeds of expansion
This year, Guyana has made significant strides in fortifying its coconut industry, with the acquisition of an estimated 13,000 high-yielding Brazilian green dwarf coconut seed nuts.
These seeds, acquired at a total cost of GYD$12 million, are poised to play a pivotal role in Guyana’s quest to expand its coconut cultivation.
