T&T Muslim tells US – “Mind your own affairs”

Head of the Trinidad and Tobago’s Muslim group Waajihatul Islaamiyyah, also known as The Islamic Front, Umar Abdullah, is lashing out against US security authorities. This reaction came as the US assisted local police officers in cracking down on the persons suspected of planning to disrupt Carnival activities with violence.

Abdullah, who is pushing for the release of those detained by the police, said the US should pay more attention to it’s own affairs, following Wednesday’s shooting at a Florida High School that left 17 people dead.

US should attend to matters within its borders

“Instead of meddling in the affairs of other countries I strongly suggest the American security officials mind their own affairs and pay attention to what’s happening within their borders. Apart from the 18 school shootings thus far this year,…Imagine this young man who murdered 17 children and injuring 6, had telling signs on his Instagram and Facebook page as far back as 1 year but they failed to see it but they saw signs here that law abiding citizens who happens to be Muslims had plans to disrupt Carnival 2018…..Go figure…” Abdullah said.

Threat – “no joke”

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley told the media that the threat to Carnival was no joke. He said while the operation was 100 percent led by local police, they usually liaise with international partners, including the US, on intelligence.

According to Rowley, the government “still has very serious concerns about the security of the state” as law enforcement agencies continue their investigations into allegations of possible terrorist activities aimed at disrupting the Carnival celebrations that ended on Tuesday.

Acting Police Commissioner Stephen Williams said 13 people have so far been detained as a result of the ongoing investigations that first became public last Thursday forcing the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom to warn its citizens of a possible terrorist attack in the twin-island Republic.
