American Airlines boosts connectivity to Antigua & Barbuda for Summer 2024

In a strategic move to cater to the rising demand for Caribbean travel during the summer season, American Airlines has unveiled its plans for Summer 2024, with a particular focus on enhancing services to the island of Antigua.

Double daily nonstop flights: Antigua takes center stage

Effective June 5, 2024, American Airlines will introduce a second daily nonstop flight from Miami to Antigua, extending this double daily nonstop service until September 3, 2024.

This development is seen as a direct response to the growing demand for flights to Antigua and Barbuda during the summer months.

Tourism Minister’s enthusiasm

Charles Fernandez, the Minister of Tourism for Antigua and Barbuda, expressed his enthusiasm for this additional service.

He believes it will play a pivotal role in bolstering the destination’s appeal and economic activity during the traditional shoulder season.

The timing of the second flight aligns perfectly with efforts to boost airlift into Antigua and maintain business continuity.

A growing US market

Highlighting the significance of the US market for Antigua and Barbuda, the Tourism Minister pointed out the notable growth in visitor arrivals from the region as of September 2023.

This upward trend underscores the allure of the Caribbean nation among American travelers.

Extensive marketing efforts

The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority’s US Office embarked on an extensive roadshow this Fall/Winter season, covering more than 38 cities in collaboration with resort, cruise, tour operator, and airline partners.

The primary aim of this comprehensive roadshow was to promote the destination and encourage increased airlift.

CEO’s Optimism

Colin James, CEO of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, spoke optimistically about the success of their US travel trade roadshows and consumer shows. These efforts have generated substantial interest in visiting the twin-island paradise.

James expressed confidence that the additional airlift scheduled for Summer 2024 would be instrumental in meeting the rising demand, with expectations to surpass the arrivals of the benchmark year 2019.

He emphasized that the extra service with American Airlines will provide them with that added boost, as their consumers will benefit from greater travel options allowing them to connect easily to the destination.

Expanding routes: JFK International Airport

In addition to the expanded services from Miami, American Airlines has revealed plans to operate daily flights to Antigua from JFK International Airport in New York into Spring 2024.

This strategic decision is fueled by the strong performance of Antigua and Barbuda in the US market during Summer 2023, prompting discussions with other major US carriers about potential increased services for Summer 2024.
