Suspended West Indies cricketer John Campbell faces continued uncertainty as the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has postponed its decision on whether to reduce his four-year anti-doping ban for the fourth time.
Initially expected to announce its verdict on August 31, 2023, CAS rescheduled it to October 31, 2023, then December 19, 2023, followed by January 18, 2024. The latest delay pushes the decision date to February 22, 2024.
Campbell’s legal team had argued for a reduction of up to three years based on an overall assessment of the sanction provision and mitigating factors in the case. The left-handed Jamaican batsman has already served 14 months of his four-year ban, which was imposed by the Jamaica Anti-Doping Independent Disciplinary Panel in October 2022. He was charged with evading, refusing, or failing to submit to sample collection.
The prolonged wait leaves John Campbell and cricket enthusiasts in suspense regarding the outcome of his anti-doping appeal, with hopes that the CAS decision in February will provide clarity on his future in the sport.
