Jamaica’s Under-20 team delivered a performance of relentless precision and attacking ferocity, overwhelming the Cayman Islands 9-0 to preserve their flawless record at the Concacaf Men’s U-20 Qualifiers on Friday night.
The lopsided victory at the Stadion Rignaal ‘Jean’ Francisca in Curaçao marked Jamaica’s third consecutive triumph and reinforced their status as Group B’s most formidable side.
Early pressure sets the tone
From the opening whistle, Jamaica imposed a suffocating press that quickly destabilized their opponents. The breakthrough arrived in the 19th minute when Odane Wilberforce powered home a header, converting a pinpoint corner delivered by defender Marlon van de Wetering, whose attacking contributions from the back continued to shape the team’s momentum.
Rather than retreat, the young Jamaicans accelerated. Nine minutes later, Giovanni Taylor doubled the lead after a handball inside the area awarded Jamaica a penalty. The Arnett Gardens F.C. attacker showed determination, converting on the rebound after his initial effort was saved. He struck again before halftime, unleashing a long-range drive that eluded the goalkeeper’s reach to complete his brace and put the match beyond doubt.
Second-half surge becomes a goal avalanche
Any hopes of a Cayman response dissolved shortly after the restart. Jamaica resumed their hunt with the same urgency, and Orel Miller capitalized in the 52nd minute, forcing the ball home amid a crowded penalty area following a sweeping attacking move.
The fifth goal showcased the team’s fluid passing and spatial awareness. Substitute Claver Nugent finished a sequence of crisp interchanges that sliced open the defense, highlighting the squad’s depth and tactical cohesion.
Jahmarie Nolan then took center stage. Racing onto a defense-splitting pass from Raequan Campbell-Dennis, he coolly curled his finish beyond the advancing goalkeeper. Jabarie Howell added another with a sharp near-post strike before Nolan returned to complete a clinical hat-trick, first by finishing a cross and then by bending a spectacular effort into the net in stoppage time.
Group implications and parallel results
Elsewhere in Group B, St. Kitts and Nevis and Bonaire battled to a 1-1 result, while Puerto Rico maintained their own perfect run with a 4-0 victory over the Turks and Caicos Islands.
Those outcomes leave Jamaica level on nine points with Puerto Rico atop the standings, though Jamaica hold the edge on goal difference. Only the group winner will advance to the Concacaf Men’s U-20 Championship, joining six pre-seeded regional powers.
A team in full flight
Three matches, three wins, and an astonishing goal tally (19), Jamaica’s U-20 Boyz are not merely advancing; they are announcing themselves. With attacking depth, defensive discipline, and an appetite for goals, the young squad has transformed qualification into a showcase of dominance, placing them firmly on course for the next stage of continental competition.
