Sunshine Girls pull away after halftime battle
After the athletics competition concluded, Jamaica's attention shifted to the netball court, where the Sunshine Girls overcame a spirited Barbados challenge to secure a 46-37 victory and their third consecutive triumph of the tournament.
Fielding a squad comprised primarily of under-21 players, the defending champions were forced to work for every point during an intensely competitive first half.
Barbados matched Jamaica's intensity throughout the opening two quarters, refusing to yield as the teams traded goals in a balanced contest that reached halftime deadlocked at 22-22.
The defending champions then showcased their defensive quality after the interval.
Jamaica clamped down on Barbados' attack while finding greater rhythm offensively, dominating the third quarter 14-5 to transform a level contest into a commanding 36-27 advantage entering the final period.
Although both teams netted 10 goals in the fourth quarter, Barbados never threatened Jamaica's lead as the Sunshine Girls comfortably closed out another important victory.
Gordon leads efficient Jamaican attack
Simone Gordon spearheaded Jamaica's offense with an impressive 29 goals from 41 attempts, while Jada Ricketts made an equally valuable contribution, converting 13 of her 22 attempts to help steer the defending champions to another convincing result.
With three straight victories secured, the Sunshine Girls remain firmly on course to retain their CAC Games crown.
Their next assignment comes Thursday against St. Lucia, where another victory would move the Jamaicans another significant step closer to successfully defending the regional title while maintaining their unbeaten run.
