Sharma-led attack leaves hosts in disarray

West Indies ‘A’ struggled from the outset, with Sharma immediately exposing their vulnerability against the new ball.

The left-handed Zachary Carter, known for his aggressive approach, was trapped lbw for six in the opening over, and the visitors maintained their pressure as Sharma struck again to remove Kamil Pooran for 14 off 11 deliveries in the third over.

With the score at 21 for two, Jewel Andrew and Alick Athanaze attempted to revive the innings, combining for a brief 21-run counterattack across two overs.

However, fast bowler Eddie Jack halted their progress by dismissing Andrew for 11, leaving the hosts struggling to establish any meaningful partnerships.

Athanaze managed 20 from 20 balls before leg-spinner Calvin Harrison bowled him, and the innings continued to unravel as England's bowlers tightened their grip.

Currie completes late collapse

Shadrack Descarte offered some resistance, but his 20 came from a painstaking 33 deliveries before he became the first of Scott Currie's three victims.

The West Indies batting effort then suffered a dramatic late collapse, with the final four wickets falling for just five runs as the hosts plunged from 93 for six to 98 all out.

Sharma led the destruction with an impressive 4-19, while Currie claimed 3-11 and Harrison supported with 2-16.

The visitors' disciplined attack ensured that West Indies never threatened to post a competitive total, leaving their bowlers with little margin for error.

Rew unleashes explosive response

West Indies briefly threatened to make the chase interesting when fast bowler Jahkeem Pollard struck with the second ball of the innings, having Ben McKinney caught at cover without scoring.

But that early breakthrough proved little more than a temporary interruption as Rew and Rehan Ahmed launched a devastating counterattack.

The pair plundered 53 runs across the next five overs, effectively extinguishing the home team's hopes of defending their modest total.

Ahmed punished Pollard with two boundaries in an over that cost 10 runs, before Rew took command against Stewart Thompson, striking three consecutive boundaries in a 16-run over.

Joshua James eventually ended the 53-run partnership by having Ahmed caught at backward square leg for 29 from 24 deliveries, leaving England at 53 for two after six overs.

Skipper finishes the job in style

Any remaining resistance was quickly brushed aside as Rew continued his assault, guiding England toward victory through an unbroken 48-run partnership with his batting partner, who finished unbeaten on nine.

The captain brought up his half-century from just 24 balls by cutting Thompson behind square for two, leaving England only three runs away from victory.

Rew's unbeaten 50 included eight fours and a six, capping an emphatic performance that complemented Sharma's match-winning bowling contribution.

England completed the chase with 59 balls remaining, taking a commanding early advantage in the series.

The teams will return to Conaree Sports Club on Tuesday for the second T20, with West Indies ‘A’ needing a much-improved batting performance to keep the series alive.
