In the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking, Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz experienced a slight drop, falling three places to occupy the 40th position.
However, despite this decline, the Reggae Girlz retained their status as the fourth-ranked team within the CONCACAF region as they head into the new year.
Jamaica’s recent performance in the Women’s Gold Cup qualifiers, where they drew three matches and lost one between the last two windows, contributed to their current ranking. They find themselves trailing behind the second-ranked United States, the 10th-ranked Canada, and Mexico, which climbed one place to secure the 35th position in the latest rankings, released on Friday.
Haiti achieved a historic milestone by attaining their highest-ever FIFA ranking, placing 51st. In the Caribbean region, Trinidad and Tobago occupies the 78th position, while Guyana is ranked 87th, making them the next best-performing Caribbean teams on the FIFA rankings list.
Spain claims the pole position for the first time
At the top of the rankings, World Champions Spain claimed the pole position for the first time, surpassing the former champions, the United States. Spain joins an exclusive group of only four teams to have reached the summit of the rankings, following in the footsteps of the United States, Germany, and Sweden.
France made significant progress, moving up two spots to third place, while England maintained their fourth position. Sweden, on the other hand, experienced a slight dip, sliding four places to fifth.
The top 10 includes Germany, the Netherlands, Japan, Korea DPR, and Canada, which holds the 10th position. Notably, Brazil dropped two places to the 11th spot in the rankings, marking a significant shift in the standings.
