Reggae Boy Richard King seals move to St Mirren

PAISLEY, Scotland — Jamaican international Richard King has officially embarked on the next chapter of his blossoming career, signing a multi-year deal with Scottish Premiership side St Mirren FC.

The 23-year-old defender, widely regarded as one of the Caribbean’s most promising talents, has committed to the club through 2027, with an option for an additional year.

The transfer marks a significant leap forward for King, a former captain of Cavalier SC and a regular feature in the heart of the Reggae Boyz defense, where he has already amassed 30 senior international caps.

A sought-after talent heads to Scotland

King’s commanding performances for club and country had drawn attention from multiple suitors across the United Kingdom and mainland Europe. Yet it was St Mirren that ultimately secured his signature, making him their third acquisition ahead of the 2025–26 campaign.

Manager Stephen Robinson expressed delight at the signing, describing King as a long-standing target and a high-upside addition to the Saints’ backline.

“We’ve tracked Richard for a long time and kept up with his progress,” Robinson explained. “He’s quick, he’s strong, and he’s a project for us as well. It’s a step up in level for him. We believe he can be a really good asset for the football club when he returns from the CONCACAF Gold Cup.”

A boost to St Mirren’s defensive arsenal

With the ink now dry on the deal, Robinson emphasized King’s potential to raise the level of internal competition and provide tactical depth in defense.

“He will bring real competition to the boys we’ve already got and give us another strong option in that department,” the Northern Irish manager added.

Known for his intelligent positioning, recovery speed, and calmness under pressure, King is expected to fit seamlessly into St Mirren’s evolving defensive setup.

Eyes on the Gold Cup before club duties begin

Before joining his new club in Paisley, Richard King remains focused on national duty, as he is expected to feature prominently in Jamaica’s second CONCACAF Gold Cup match on Friday, when the Reggae Boyz face off against Guadeloupe.

The timing of his move could not be more fitting—coming just as the young defender continues to raise his international profile in front of a global audience.

From Kingston to the Kingdom: A new chapter begins

Having captained Cavalier SC with maturity beyond his years and proven himself on the international stage, King’s move to the Scottish top flight signals both ambition and belief—from the player and his new club alike.

With St Mirren investing in youth and versatility, and King eager to elevate his game on European soil, the stage is set for a promising partnership grounded in potential, perseverance, and pride.
