In a thrilling encounter on Saturday, Manchester City claimed the top spot in the Women’s Super League table with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Everton.
City demonstrated their prowess from the outset, building on their previous triumph over Chelsea with a stellar performance. Khadija Shaw opened the scoring in the 15th minute, seizing upon a defensive error from Justine Vanhaevermaet and calmly slotting the ball past Courtney Brosnan.
Ten minutes into the second half, Lauren Hemp doubled City’s lead with a sensational goal. Starting from the right flank, Hemp showcased her skill and determination as she cut inside and unleashed a powerful shot from just beyond 20 yards, leaving Everton’s defense helpless.
A stunning strike from 25 yards out
Although Hanna Bennison pulled one back for Everton with a stunning strike from 25 yards out, finding the top corner off the underside of the crossbar, City managed to maintain their lead until the final whistle.
