Reggae Girl Khadija Shaw showcased her scoring prowess with a stunning hat-trick, propelling Manchester City to a commanding 4-1 victory over Everton in the Women’s Super League.
Shaw, who now leads the Women’s Super League with nine goals, had an eventful match. She had an early eighth-minute penalty saved by Everton’s goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan, following a foul on Lauren Hemp by Sara Holmgaard. However, Shaw quickly made amends, stunning Brosnan with a perfectly executed lob from the edge of the box, just 55 seconds after the penalty miss.
Shaw continued her goal-scoring spree by doubling Manchester City’s lead in the first half. She drilled a low shot past Brosnan, increasing City’s advantage midway through the opening period. The team’s dominance was further solidified as Jill Roord slotted in a third goal after a well-timed cut-back from Chloe Kelly, putting Manchester City in complete control just 25 minutes into the match.
Much-improved second-half performance by Everton
Despite a much-improved second-half performance by Everton, which saw Aurora Galli score a stunning long-distance strike to reduce the deficit, Shaw remained the star of the show. She completed her remarkable hat-trick after 65 minutes, heading in a free-kick delivered by Alex Greenwood, effectively extinguishing any hopes of an Everton fightback.
With her impressive hat-trick, Khadija Shaw reaffirmed her position as one of the leading goal-scorers in the Women’s Super League and played a pivotal role in Manchester City’s convincing 4-1 victory over Everton.
