Hallgrímsson resigns following Reggae Boyz' disappointing Copa America campaign

Heimir Hallgrímsson has stepped down as the head coach of Jamaica’s national senior men’s football team, the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) announced late Sunday.

The resignation followed the Reggae Boyz' 3-0 defeat to Venezuela, which concluded their Copa America campaign with three consecutive losses and no points.

The JFF revealed that Hallgrímsson communicated his decision to resign to both the president and the players earlier on Sunday.

“Hallgrímsson came to Jamaica over two years ago and has worked assiduously to lift the standard of the national team. The JFF and the wider Jamaica have seen much benefit as a result of Coach Hallgrímsson’s tenure,” the JFF stated. “The JFF would like to thank him for the work he has done, and we are pleased with the coach’s commitment to the team. We wish him success in his future endeavors.”

The JFF also announced that its technical committee would begin the search for a new coach to lead the team in the upcoming CONCACAF Nations League and the next round of FIFA World Cup qualifying games.
