The Falcons appeared to be racing toward a substantial total when Evin Lewis and Cornwall launched into the Knight Riders' bowling attack during the opening three overs, producing 36 runs.
But Cornwall's assault ended abruptly.
After opening the fourth over by striking Usman Tariq for a boundary, Cornwall inside-edged the very next delivery onto his stumps and departed for 20.
Lewis followed for 24 after Akeal Hosein had him caught, and Justin Greaves compounded the damage by trapping Amir Jangoo lbw for six.
Suddenly, the Falcons were wobbling at 62 for three.
That was when Nawaz and Moeen Ali took command.
Nawaz and Moeen turn the innings around
The fourth-wicket partnership changed the complexion of the Falcons' innings.
Nawaz attacked with nine fours and three sixes, while captain Moeen Ali provided measured support, finishing unbeaten on 32 from 24 deliveries.
Together, they added 108 runs, transforming a precarious position into a platform for a formidable finish.
Nawaz was not without fortune.

He struck in his first over, the second of the innings, to remove Colin Munro, caught by Moeen Ali at mid-on with the score on 19.
Two balls later, Cornwall struck again.
Sunil Narine sent a catch toward long-on and was gone for just one.
The Knight Riders had lost two major contributors in the space of three deliveries.
Joshua James then removed Alex Hales, before Cornwall returned to claim the crucial wicket of Nicholas Pooran for 22.
By the end of the sixth over, Trinbago was 57 for four.
The Falcons had seized control.
Da Silva and Pollard refuse to fold
Yet the Knight Riders were not finished.
Da Silva launched a counterattack, smashing five sixes and three fours on his way to an unbeaten 54 from only 31 balls.
Pollard contributed 41, and together the pair added 55 for the fifth wicket to drag Trinbago back into contention.
With three overs remaining, the equation stood at 38 runs required.
The five-time champions had a chance.
But the Falcons produced the decisive moments when they mattered most.
James dismissed Pollard in the 18th over, and three deliveries later Terrance Hinds was run out.
The Knight Riders' final avenue of resistance had disappeared.
Falcons strengthen their position as Knight Riders falter
Cornwall finished with outstanding figures of 3-17, while James claimed 2-40, completing a bowling effort that ultimately protected Nawaz's earlier heroics.
