Jamaica capped an extraordinary campaign with a flawless record, securing the Concacaf Boys’ U15 Championships League B crown on Saturday after a decisive 2–0 victory over Puerto Rico at the Guillermo Prospero Trinidad Stadium in Aruba.
Quick-strike specialist Tevin Savage opened the scoring in just the second minute, while tireless forward Kelvin Brown sealed the result in the 70th. The triumph means Jamaica now reigns supreme in the second tier of Concacaf’s U15 competition — a division that sits just below League A, which features the region’s eight highest-ranked nations: Mexico, the United States, Canada, Costa Rica, Panama, Honduras, El Salvador, and Nicaragua.
Fast start, fierce battle
In a tournament where they had made a habit of early breakthroughs, the young Boyz wasted no time. Brown held off defenders with brilliant strength and vision before threading a pass to Savage, who clinically beat the Puerto Rican goalkeeper at his near post with a one-time, low-driven strike.
Savage nearly doubled his tally midway through the first half, again combining with Brown inside the box, but his effort skewed wide. At the other end, Jamaican goalkeeper Jaheime Gray was called into action, stretching full length to keep out a sharp drive from Luis Rodriguez.
Close calls on both ends
Puerto Rico’s resilience kept the match tense, and Jamaica continued to test the opposition’s defense. Davion Clarke unleashed a knuckleball in the 45th minute that skimmed inches over the bar. Later, in the 68th minute, Puerto Rican goalkeeper Martin Perez vacated his line, leaving the goal open, but substitute Carlondo Morris was unable to convert under heavy defensive pressure.
A minute later, Kevaughn Halloway struck a thundering volley from outside the box, only for Perez to tip it around the post with a spectacular diving save.
Brown delivers the knockout blow
Persistence finally paid off in the closing stages. Brown, who had tormented Puerto Rico’s backline all match, met Kyle Hussey’s pinpoint delivery with a commanding header, putting the game beyond reach and confirming Jamaica’s place at the top of League B.
The championship is another milestone for head coach Andrew Peart and his squad, several of whom were part of the Jamaican team that captured the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) U15 Boyz Challenge Series title last year. Trinidad and Tobago secured third place earlier in the day, edging 10-man Guatemala 1-0 in the playoff match.
For Jamaica, the unbeaten run in Aruba is not just a trophy-winning achievement — it’s a statement of intent, a sign that the next generation is ready to take on the region’s elite.
