Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) President Michael Ricketts has expressed deep appreciation for FIFA’s crucial role in assisting the federation in setting up a solid foundation that paved the way for the Under-14 football team’s triumphant performance in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Boys U14 Challenge Series.
Ricketts also took the opportunity to commend the technical staff and the young athletes for their remarkable achievements, culminating in a resounding 7-1 victory over French Guiana in the final.
“The support from FIFA has been instrumental in helping us establish the necessary structures for youth development, which has clearly paid off in this tournament,” Ricketts remarked. “Our technical team and players have worked tirelessly, and their dedication has been rewarded with this significant victory.”
A spectacular show
The Under-14 Reggae Boyz put on a spectacular show, overcoming a one-goal deficit at halftime to deliver an explosive second half that saw them netting seven goals against French Guiana. Matheo Francois gave French Guiana an early lead in the 20th minute with a long-range effort, but Jamaica responded emphatically after the break.
Kelvin Brown kicked off the comeback with a close-range finish just five minutes into the second half, and Carlondo Morris followed with a goal in the 52nd minute, pushing Jamaica ahead. Brown added his second of the night shortly after, opening the floodgates for Jamaica’s attacking onslaught.
Morris completed his hat-trick by the hour mark, with Samuel Taylor and substitute Jaedan Brown-Hanniford each adding a goal to seal the 7-1 rout. Jamaica’s dominant performance capped off an impressive tournament run, where they scored 25 goals and conceded only twice across six games.
Development of young talent
Ricketts was full of praise for the team’s efforts and highlighted the importance of continuing this momentum in the development of young talent. “The boys have demonstrated exceptional skill and determination throughout the competition, and this victory is a testament to the hard work of our coaches and the entire support team. We are extremely proud of their achievements and excited for the future of Jamaican football,” he said.
The JFF President also emphasized the role of the technical staff in guiding the young players to success. “Our coaches and technical staff deserve a lot of credit for their strategic planning and effective execution, which have been key to the team’s success. This win is not just about the players on the pitch, but also the dedicated individuals working behind the scenes to prepare them.”
As Jamaica celebrates this significant achievement, the focus now shifts to building on this success and ensuring that the next generation of footballers continues to thrive on both the regional and international stages.
