Jamaica’s Under-14 Reggae Boyz capped off a dominant Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Boys U14 Challenge Series with a commanding 7-1 victory over French Guiana, securing the title in emphatic fashion.
The young Boyz recovered from a one-goal deficit at halftime to deliver a stunning second-half performance, scoring six goals to seal the win at the Dwight Yorke Stadium on Sunday.
French Guiana opened the scoring in the 20th minute when Matheo Francois struck a long-range effort that looped over the Jamaican goalkeeper. Despite trailing at halftime, the Reggae Boyz wasted no time responding after the break. Kelvin Brown leveled the score in the 46th minute, finishing from close range after a series of chances.
From there, Jamaica unleashed a flurry of goals, starting with Carlondo Morris, who put Jamaica ahead in the 52nd minute with a composed finish inside the box. Just a minute later, Brown returned to score his second of the night, opening the floodgates for Jamaica’s relentless attack.
A perfect record
French Guiana’s night worsened as Morris added his second goal of the match, benefiting from a deflected shot that found the back of the net. Morris completed his hat-trick in the 60th minute, making it 5-1 for Jamaica. Samuel Taylor added Jamaica’s sixth goal just three minutes later, and substitute Jaedan Brown-Hanniford put the finishing touch on the dominant performance with a right-footed strike from outside the box to make it 7-1.
The victory meant that Jamaica finished the tournament with a perfect record, winning all six of their matches. The Reggae Boyz scored a total of 25 goals while only conceding two—one in the semi-final against Puerto Rico and another in the final against French Guiana.
Jamaica Football Federation President Michael Ricketts congratulated the team and coaching staff after their trophy lift at the Dwight Yorke Stadium. “I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to our national U14 team for their performances in the recently concluded CFU U14 Challenger Series in Trinidad and Tobago,” Ricketts said.
“I would also like to congratulate coach Andrew Peart and his staff for their hard work in preparing the team for the tournament, and I am so delighted that it has paid off. It is a good feeling knowing that we will be returning to Jamaica with a trophy.”
