Acknowledging his artistic contribution that transcends mere aesthetics, leaders expressed their condolences to his family, recognizing the deep emotional and national resonance of his work.

A legacy woven into national fabric

Grenada independence

George’s life between the United Kingdom and Grenada was marked by notable achievements, including the prestigious British Empire Medal in 2007.

His memoir, “Beyond Belief,” sheds light on the thoughtful symbolism embedded in the flag’s design, from the central star representing sovereignty and new beginnings to the colors depicting the nation’s character, warmth, and natural bounty.

He had envisioned the national flag to be an aesthetic that would stand the test of time.

Honors and lasting influence

The impact of George’s work on Grenada’s national identity has been widely recognized.

His contributions have been commemorated in various forms, including his appearance on postage stamps and the naming of a road in his honor, reflecting his significance in the realm of community services and nation-building.

The widespread celebration of the 50th anniversary of independence, with George’s flag design playing a central role, underscores the enduring legacy of his creative vision.
