Two Jamaicans face ganja-related charges in Cayman

Two Jamaican men were arrested with roughly 100 pounds of ganja in an abandoned building on Rock Hole Road in Cayman last Saturday.

They are identified as 35-year-old Benjamin Carrington and 57-year-old Cedric Bertrum.

Reports are that the men recently arrived in the Cayman Islands illegally.

It is reported that on September 23, Royal Cayman Islands Police Service officers in George Town observed the men acting suspiciously outside an abandoned building on Rock Hole Road. 

The officers decided to approach Carrington and Bertrum due to their suspicious behavior. Upon doing so, they were greeted by the odor of ganja permeating the air around the neglected structure.

A thorough search conducted

Under the provisions of the Misuse of Drugs Act, the law enforcement agents conducted a thorough search of the aforementioned building. 

The search yielded several bags, with their contents totaling around 100 pounds of suspected ganja.

Charges faced

The men were taken into custody on suspicion of drug offenses, and officers subsequently determined that they had recently arrived on the island illegally.

The two men have since been formally charged with importation of ganja, possession of ganja with intent to supply, and illegal landing.
