Matthews leads competitive Tridents total
After being asked to bat, Barbados reached 158 for seven from its 20 overs, with captain Hayley Matthews producing an even 50 to anchor the innings.
The Tridents lost Qiana Joseph for 15 early, but Matthews and Kiran Navgire steadied the innings with a 63-run partnership that lifted the home side to 83 for one.
A total exceeding 180 appeared possible before Matthews’ dismissal changed the complexion of the innings.
Having just reached her half-century, the captain returned a catch to Sheneta Grimmond, who held on to complete the breakthrough.
Grimmond struck again soon afterward, removing new acquisition Harleen Deol for one to leave Barbados at 87 for three in the 13th over.
Navgire and Maddy Green attempted to rebuild, adding 36 for the fourth wicket. But Erin Burns ended the partnership by having Navgire caught behind for 38 off 29 balls.
Suzie Bates then provided a late boost, hitting an unbeaten 22 from 11 deliveries to help the Tridents post a competitive total.
Grimmond finished with 3-28 for Guyana, while Burns claimed 2-19.
Brits and Campbelle set up comfortable chase
The Amazon Warriors responded with contributions throughout their top order, steadily dismantling Barbados’ defense of 158.
Tazmin Brits led the way with 46 from 41 balls, while Shemaine Campbelle added 36 off 28.
Brits first combined with Eboni Brathwaite, who scored 22, in a 47-run opening stand. She then added 34 with Burns, helping Guyana reach 81 for one at the halfway stage.
Both Brits and Burns eventually fell to spinner Afy Fletcher, but the visitors had already established firm control.
Nadine de Klerk contributed a valuable 20, and captain Chloe Tryon and Realanna Grimmond completed the chase alongside her.
Guyana reached 159 for five in 19 overs, winning with six balls remaining.
Eliminator offers Tridents another chance
The defeat left Guyana second in the four-team standings, while Barbados retained its playoff position through the favorable net run-rate calculation.
The Tridents will now have to overcome the same Warriors side in Wednesday’s Eliminator to preserve their title defense.
The winner will advance to Thursday’s championship showdown against the Trinbago Knight Riders Women, leaving Barbados with a narrow but significant opportunity to keep its bid for consecutive CPL titles alive.
