Chattergoon and Thomas unleash opening assault
Former West Indies international opener Sewnarine Chattergoon set the tone with a blistering 158 before retiring hurt. His 101-ball innings included 14 fours and four sixes, providing the centerpiece of a dominant performance.
Chattergoon and Barbadian opener Randy Thomas tore into the Colombian attack, putting together an imposing 272-run opening partnership. Thomas narrowly missed a century, departing for 92.
Jason Mohammed added 81 to maintain the momentum, while Imran Khan produced a spectacular late assault, reaching 50 from just 19 balls. Local player Narsingh Deonarine chipped in with 23 as West Indies piled up a total that proved far beyond Colombia’s reach.
Bishoo spearheads Colombia collapse
Colombia’s reply never threatened the massive target, although Abhas Srivastava offered some resistance with 43.
Leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo led the rout, taking three wickets for 17 runs in 4.4 overs. Fast bowler Trevor Benn and Khan claimed two wickets apiece as West Indies dismantled the opposition.
Colombia finished the preliminary round without a victory in the 15-team competition, which concludes Saturday with the final at Providence.
Bowl trophy remains in reach
Although the semi-final door has closed, West Indies still have another objective in the tournament. They will compete in the Bowl/Plate qualifying round at Bourda on Wednesday, with a chance to pursue the Bowl trophy.
The semi-finals begin Wednesday at Providence, where England face Pakistan. South Africa and Australia will contest the second semi-final at the same venue on Thursday.
