Mohamed unleashes late assault
The West Indies’ innings gathered momentum through a series of substantial partnerships after Randy Thomas fell early for eight.
Farnum and Chattergoon steadied the innings with a 122-run stand, although the captain briefly retired hurt after reaching 50 from 73 balls, which included six fours.
Mohamed then joined Farnum in a partnership worth 142 runs that dramatically accelerated the scoring rate. The pair attacked the Welsh bowling with increasing authority, pushing the run rate beyond nine and a half an over.
Farnum eventually departed in the 40th over, bowled by Lee Dixon, after striking 14 fours and two sixes. By then, the West Indies had advanced to 272-2 and were positioned to launch a devastating finish.
Final five overs yield 100 runs
Larry Babb joined Mohamed for the closing assault, and the pair turned the final five overs into a procession of boundaries as Wales struggled to contain the scoring.
The West Indies plundered 100 runs during that period, carrying their total to 372-2 and leaving the visitors with a daunting target.
Mohamed remained unbeaten on 151, having scored at a remarkable rate, while Babb provided a powerful finishing contribution with 30 not out from only 13 balls. His innings featured three sixes and two fours.
The late explosion transformed an already commanding position into a virtually unassailable total and put the pressure squarely on Wales’ batting lineup.
Wales collapse before lower order resists
Wales never established the partnerships needed to mount a serious challenge, losing wickets at regular intervals before being dismissed for 191 in 41.2 overs.
Their innings deteriorated to 111-7, leaving the lower order with the task of preventing an even heavier defeat.
Iroshan De Silva offered the strongest resistance, scoring an unbeaten 39 from 61 deliveries at No. 9. Rob Marshall contributed 17, while last man Dylan McPhee added 14 as Wales managed to reach 191.
Imran Khan led the West Indies bowling attack with 3-51, while Devendra Bishoo claimed 2-40. The effectiveness of the bowling effort was underscored by the fact that all seven bowlers used took at least one wicket.
The West Indies’ combination of explosive batting and disciplined bowling ensured that Wales were unable to build on their late resistance, completing a comprehensive victory for the Caribbean side.
Canada, USA and Scotland also victorious
Elsewhere in the tournament, Canada defeated Namibia by 48 runs, while the United States recorded a dominant 10-wicket victory over the Rest of the World.
Scotland also enjoyed a comfortable result, defeating the Rest of the Caribbean by eight wickets as the IMC Over-40s World Cup continued in Guyana.
