Afghanistan off-spinner AM Ghazanfar set the tone for the Tridents with a devastating third over that transformed the match into a one-sided contest.
He first had Mavendra Dindyal stumped off the third delivery. Two balls later, Shai Hope, one of Guyana’s most reliable batters, was caught at silly mid-on.
Ghazanfar then struck again, removing Shimron Hetmyer for a first-ball duck.
The Warriors had slumped to 15 for three, and their innings never recovered.
George Linde compounded Guyana’s problems in the eighth over, dismissing Glenn Phillips for 24 and Dwaine Pretorius with successive deliveries to leave the visitors at 38 for five.
Layne finishes the collapse
Johann Layne, making his first appearance of the season, then tore through the lower middle order.
The pacer dismissed Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Quentin Sampson and Ronaldo Alimohamed, the latter two falling for first-ball ducks, as Guyana deteriorated to 67 for eight.
The Warriors were eventually bowled out for 99, with Ghazanfar finishing with 3-17, Layne taking 3-14 and Linde claiming 2-13.
Ghazanfar’s match-winning spell earned him the Player-of-the-Match award.
King and Descarte complete comfortable chase
The Tridents’ pursuit was never in serious danger, although they lost Zachary Carter, Quinton de Kock and Sherfane Rutherford along the way.
King provided the stability required at the top of the order, striking three fours and two sixes during his 42-ball unbeaten innings.
Descarte, meanwhile, attacked the bowling with three sixes and two fours, accelerating the chase with a powerful 32 from only 20 deliveries.
The pair combined for a decisive 41-run fourth-wicket partnership, taking Barbados to the brink of victory.
Descarte eventually fell to Miraz for the second of the spinner’s two wickets, but the damage had already been done.
King remained unbeaten as the Tridents completed a comfortable victory, extending their winning streak to four matches and carrying formidable momentum into the CPL playoffs.
